How we started

Our story started in 1994 when I (Thomas Power), went to visit the Torres del Paine National Park in Chilean Patagonia.

At the same time, working in the park as a volunteer Park Ranger was Diego Martin. We met, got on well and ended up hiking around the park for about six weeks, taking in pretty much every trail inside the park.

Diego travelled back to his native Spain via Buenos Aires. I hitchhiked from Torres del Paine to Santiago, emerging with an enormous love of and debt of gratitude to Chile.

Over the next few years Diego and I began to hatch the plan for Pura Aventura in conjunction with Xabier Etxarri, the most experienced guide in Chilean Patagonia.

In 1999 we launched this holiday company focused entirely on delivering handmade holidays in Chile and the Picos de Europa area of northern Spain where Diego’s family had its roots.

Both were stunningly beautiful yet completely underrated areas ideal for holidays which were active during the day yet comfortable at night.

That simple formula remains for all of our handmade holidays to this day.

We are independent and what we offer is unique. What we do is driven by a passion for the places we know and love. You get our experience and expertise to deliver an outstanding holiday experience.

To be featured as a Pura destination it has to be beautiful, often underrated or little-known, and offer holiday experiences which are active, comfortable and responsible. We also have to be sure that we can deliver the best holidays that live up to our standards.

Where someone is already delivering holidays which are as good as we could hope to offer, they become part of our handpicked range.

These two memberships cover all Pura Aventura holidays fully according to European Travel Regulations.

In short, in the extremely unlikely event that something were to happen to Pura Aventura prior to your departure you would receive a full refund. Pura Aventura pays for almost all of the services for your holiday prior to your departure. If anything happened to us while you were on holiday then you would continue as planned.
