Galapagos Land Based Holiday itinerary
Fly to Ecuador. Please note: international flights are quoted separately for this holiday. On arrival you are collected for the transfer to your first class hotel.
Spend today exploring Quito in the company of your local guide. This afternoon head north to the Equatorial Line Monument.
Fly to the Galapagos Islands this morning. Go snorkeling this afternoon for your first experience of swimming with sea lions.
Cross the prairie-like highlands of San Cristobal towards the giant tortoise breeding project at La Galapaguera, one of the best places to see giant tortoises in the wild.
Start today with a boat trip out to the famous Leon Dormido or Kicker rock. Return to the beach to look out for blue-footed boobies as well as pelicans and various other bird species in the mangroves.
Cross the straits from San Cristobal to Floreana Island, the longest navigation of your visit. This afternoon have a wander along the nice beaches near the village.
Walk along the beach to the sea lion colony La Loberia. Travel across to the largest of the Galapagos, Isabela. Stop off en route to circle the island of la Tortuga which is particularly good for bird watching.
Travel into the highlands to walk on the Volcan Chico side of the Sierra Negra volcano. The views are wonderful along the volcanoes of Isabela towards Wolf where the recently discovered Pink Iguana live.
Explore the small island of Tintoreras with its sea lions, pelicans and even the tiny Galapagos penguin. Walk across surreal lava landscapes to a huge iguana colony. The mangrove-lined beaches are also home to sea lions.
Travel by public lancha or speed boat, to the main island of Santa Cruz and the biggest town in the Galapagos, Puerto Ayora. Visit the Charles Darwin Research Centre.
After breakfast you will follow the trail to the highlands, which lead from the upper area of Puerto Ayora. Walk through the agricultural zone near the National Park boundary, the miconia zone and then on to the fern zone.
Cross back over the highlands to stop off at the twin craters at Los Gemelos. Continue to the island of Baltra from where you fly back to the mainland. |
