Samba’s start day, day one, is Tuesday. You can join the cruise from:
| Day 1 |
Ecuador, Galapagos
Darwin Centre
|
Fly to the Galapagos early this morning, a flight of around three hours since the islands are some 600 miles offshore. This afternoon visit the Charles Darwin Research Station to learn about their breeding, conservation and education programs.
| Day 2 |
Galapagos, Floreana
flamingos and rays
|
Walk across Floreana Island to see flamingoes and sea turtles. Continue to the Devil’s Crown where you can snorkel. After lunch, visit Post Office bay and learn something about the human history of the islands.
| Day 3 |
Galapagos, Espanola
sea lions and sea birds
|
Start today with a landing on ‘sea lion beach’. All along the sand are sea lions basking in the sun. This afternoon walk to the rugged cliffs of Punta Suarez to see spectacular bird life.
| Day 4 |
Galapagos, San Cristobal
walk in the highlands
|
Land at La Galapaguera beach this morning. Enjoy a long walk of around 11km, taking you up to see giant tortoises in the highlands. End the day with a swim with sea lions.
| Day 5 |
Galapagos, Santa Fé
sea birds and land iguanas
|
Walk the coastal path to look for the bright yellow Santa Fe land iguana with their distinctive spiked backs. Watch sea birds this afternoon on South Plaza island.
| Day 6 |
Galapagos, Bartolomé
frigate birds
|
Walk through colonies of frigate birds and blue-footed boobies on North Seymour island. On Bartolome you walk to the top of the barren island for lovely views then snorkel around the base of Pinnacle Rock.
| Day 7 |
Galapagos, Rabida
red sand and seals
|
Walk along the coastline of Santiago to see Galapagos fur seals. Explore the red sand beaches and lagoons of Rabida island this afternoon.
| Day 8 |
Galapagos, Santa Cruz
Turtle Cove & highlands
|
Paddle through the mangroves of Turtle Cove on Santa Cruz Island. The west cove offers splendid snorkelling and swimming as well as a white coral sand beach. Carry on to visit the highlands.
| Day 9 |
Galapagos, Genovesa
fur seals and boobies
|
Explore ‘Bird Island’ on foot with a walk to Prince Philip’s Steps. Visit the coral sands of Darwin Bay for the chance to snorkel with fur seals.
| Day 10 |
Galapagos, Marchena
snorkel and kayak
|
Marchena is the largest island in the Galapagos with no visitor sites. There is no topsoil on the island, no freshwater, just a single active volcano.
It is, however, a great place to snorkel, kayak and ride the zodiac.
| Day 11 |
Galapagos, Isabela
sea turtles
|
Hike to Darwin Lake for great views over Isabela Island then to Vicente Roca for a dinghy ride or snorkel.
| Day 12 |
Galapagos, Fernandina
marine iguanas
|
Start today with a walk on Isabela to see if you can see giant tortoises in the wild. You will almost certainly see land iguanas along the way. Swim in the bay before crossing to Fernandina Island to see marine iguanas.
| Day 13 |
Galapagos, Isabela
penguins and mangroves
|
Explore the small islands of Elizabeth bay to see Galapagos penguins and flightless cormorants. Carry on into the mangrove wetlands to paddle peacefully past the wildlife.
| Day 14 |
Galapagos, Isabela
walk up Volcan Chico
|
Land in the small town of Puerto Villamil on the southern end of Isabela. Explore the highlands by foot then return to town to see birds, the beach and the old penal colony.
| Day 15 |
Galapagos, Santa Cruz
Bachas beach & home
|
Land at Bachas beach on Santa Cruz Island. This very pretty coral sand beach is a great place to spot birdlife and to swim and to snorkel. Fly home.
