LAN AIRLINES IS GRADUALLY RESUMING THEIR FLIGHT OPERATIONS FROM MADRID AND FRANKFURT TO SANTIAGO, CHILE
As of today, 3rd March 2010, LAN airlines will resume its scheduled flight to Santiago, Chile and Frankfurt.
Due to the earthquake, the airport at Santiago, Chile suffered significant damage, not the runways but the terminal buildings.
In particular security systems have been affected. It is this rather than damage to the buildings or runways which has meant that flights have been cancelled recently.
As of today, LAN Airlines have established a temporary terminal to allow limited operations to go ahead. Only 20% of air traffic from the Santiago airport is currently operating.
As of today and until Friday, March 5th inclusive, the flight Frankfurt – Madrid – Santiago de Chile is expected to resume operations.
Only passengers who have been affected by flight cancellations as a result of the earthquake will have priority to board these flights.
For all passengers with confirmed flight reservations to fly from Madrid to Santiago, Chile between February 27th and March 5th inclusive should contact their booking agency to find out what the status of their booking is.
We estimate that as of March 6th operations will gradually return to normal.
Official press releases and information concerning flight updates are being posted on the Lan website
