NatureAir is the world’s first verified carbon neutral airline.
It’s basically a very good airline running twin engined planes throughout Costa Rica and up to Nicaragua and Panama.
Well, not content with being carbon neutral, they have gone one step further and are now running their ground operations on cooking oil.
It seems that for every litre of household cooking oil that is flushed down the drain, nearly one million litres of Costa Rican river water is polluted.
The bio-diesel is produced from a mixture of recycled vegetable and cooking oils, and can be run in any vehicle accustomed to diesel.
The vegetable oil comes from NatureAir employees, each of whom were given their own canisters for collecting cooking oil in their homes to later bring the previously discarded oil to work where it is then converted to bio-diesel.
NatureAir is in talks with the government to be able to open up bio-fuel sales to other Costa Rican companies.
The Rainforest Alliance has recognized NatureAir for its sustainability efforts, as 100% of its carbon emissions from flight operations are offset through conservation and reforestation.
