Katie Edwards Though originally from Somerset, Katie’s career path in travel has led her through a garden shed in north London, via Regents’ Street, down to Brighton. In fact we have known Katie for years. Poor thing used to be posted on the stand opposite ours a the Destinations travel show. After years being forced to listen to Diego, Jaime and Thomas doing video presentations of Pura holidays she has either been brainwashed or decided to seek shelter behind our speakers. Katie’s Latin American travel experience started with a journey through Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil and Cuba. To this list she has since added Ecuador, Peru and Costa Rica, her favourite. What does she like so much about Costa Rica? Well, it’s the place she has spent longest and therefore knows best. But, in her own words, “It’s great being able to explore independently with your own car.” Which is to say that over the course of a few short days you can pass through an incredible range of ecosystems and landscapes. Her ideal trip starts in the verdant greenery and coffee plantations of the Central Valley, down to raft through the jungle of the Pacuare River, up into the cool cloudforest of Bosque de Paz, down to the tropical rainforest and glowing volcano of Arenal and on up to the dramatic volcanoes and dry savannah of Rincon de la Vieja. Her ideal holiday then ends with a journey along the coast of the Nicoya Peninsula exploring the lovely Pacific coastline from Nosara down. The truth is that she has a particular soft spot for Rincon de la Vieja as it’s the place with the strongest sense of being untouched by tourism. It’s proper cattle ranching land, ideal for horse riding, where hardly anyone speaks English. That’s OK, Katie’s Spanish is coming on a treat now that she’s hit the evening classes of Brighton. |
