Riding Holiday Itinerary
Day 1 | Punta Arenas | Arrive and visit penguin colony
Arrive in Punta Arenas, capital of Chilean Patagonia. Meet your guide and drive to your ranch, stop the penguin colony en route. Discuss the riding ahead over dinner. (d)
Day 2 | Torres del Paine | Patagonian Steppe
Drive across the wide, flat Patagonian steppe to the Baguales mountains which lie along the Argentine border.
Stay in another ranch this evening and prepare for riding.

Day 3 | Torres del Paine | Ride through a valley
Meet your horses and baqueanos (cowboys) this morning and adjust to the local riding style and horses.
Ride through a glacial valley in the shadow of the mountains.
Spend tonight in a comfortable lodge.
Hours in the saddle: 5-6. (b,l,d)
Day 4 | Torres del Paine | Ride into the Torres del Paine National Park
Today's ride towards the famous Torres is a long one, final section by vehicle.
Sleep in a lodge with views across a lake to the mountain range beyond. 6-7hrs in the saddle. (b,l,d)
Day 5 | Torres del Paine | Ride through the heart of the Park
Relaxed morning ride around the shores of the lake. Continue to a high viewpoint, often through snow.
Enjoy lunch at a cattle ranch, return to your estancia this afternoon.
3-4hrs in the saddle. (b,l,d)
Day 6 | Torres del Paine | Ride to Rio Serrano
After breakfast, set off on an adventure through Torres del Paine.
Ride down from the Sierra del Toro to the wide open grasslands of the valley.
Afternoon ride to Rio Serrano where you spend the night in a comfortable lodge. 3-4hrs in the saddle. (b,l,d)
Day 7 | Torres del Paine | Ride to Lago Grey
Saddle up to ride across the pampa to Lago Grey.
Ride alongside the lake with views across iceberg filled waters towards the enormous Glacier Grey.
Explore on foot or boat. Ride back to your hotel. Hours in the saddle: 5. (b,l,d)
Day 8 | Torres del Paine | Ride across Paine
Set off on the longest ride of the holiday to the south of the mountain range across open grasslands.
Stay in a characterful lodge and relax. Hours in the saddle: 7 - 8. (b,l,d)
Day 9 | Torres del Paine | Ride in meadows
Circular ride today across wide river meadows with lots of bird life.
Return to your estancia for a second night.
Relax or take a hot bath whilst dinner is prepared.
Hours in the saddle: 5 - 6. (b,l,d)
Day 10 | Torres del Paine | Cross the Pampas
Ride out of the park across farmland and wide, open pampas to a small outpost town. Stop at an estancia for lunch and continue to your lodge.
Relax by the fire. Hours in the saddle: 6 - 7. (b,l,d)
Day 11 | Punta Arenas | Explore Puerto Natales
Return to Punta Arenas, stopping in Puerto Natales to explore en route. The balance of the day is at leisure. (b)
Day 12 | Travel |
Fly home from Punta Arenas. (b)
Alternatively, you might like to extend your holiday with a number of options including a small-vessel cruise to Antarctica, walking the Inca Trail in Peru or even a sailboat cruise around the Galapagos Islands.
