Walking Holiday Itinerary

Day 1 | Fly to Peru |
Fly to Peru. Transatlantic flights for this holiday are quoted separately. You are collected by your guide on arrival and taken to your first class hotel.

Morning flight from Lima to the Amazon rainforest. Boat ride to your comfortable lodge on the banks of the river. Afternoon wildlife trail. (b,l,d)

Day 3 | Amazon | Wetlands and lakes
Set off to explore Monkey Island and its flooded forest ecosystem. This afternoon visit Lake Sandoval to explore by canoe. Expert guides help you spot monkeys, birdlife and the very rare giant otter. (b,l,d)

Day 4 | Amazon | Crops and canopies
Visit an indigenous cultivation plot today to try different types of crops and local fishing techniques. This afternoon you can explore the amazing 344m long canopy walkway of your lodge. There is a system of 7 hanging bridges, 6 observation platforms and 2 high towers. (b,l,d)

Day 5 | Cusco | Explore and acclimatise
Enjoy sunrise over the river as you travel by boat back to the airport at Puerto Maldonado. Fly the short distance up to Cusco. You are met by your guide for the drive to your deluxe class hotel. Acclimatise to the altitude (3,326m) with a stroll through the picturesque streets or walk to the ceremonial fortress of Sacsayhuaman for a panoramic view of town. (b)

Day 6 | Cusco | Discover the Sacred Valley
You will still be acclimatising today so the pace will be fairly relaxed. Spend all day in the company of your guide exploring some of the Inca sites around Cusco and the Sacred Valley today. (b)

Day 7 | Inca Trail | Start walking the trail
Start your four day Inca Trail hike with a gentle walk alongside the Urubamba River. Porters carry all equipment and set up camp for you. Walk 5km, 2hrs, up 50m. (b,l,d)

Day 8 | Inca Trail | Steady walk to altitude
Today walk 10km, 6.5hrs, up 850m at relatively low altitude (3,000m) through a pretty wooded landscape. As the day goes on you will be passing the tree line and start to get spectacular views of although by the end of the day you will be higher than you were in Cusco, camping in a lovely spot at around 3,800m. Day 9 | Inca Trail | Cross the highest pass
From your campsite walk a steady path up to Dead Woman's Pass at 4,215m, the highest point of the trail. Your campsite tonight is at 3,600m on a bluff overlooking beautiful mountain scenery. (b,l,d)

Machu PicchuDay 10 | Inca Trail | Arrive at Machu Picchu
The final day of the trail is the most beautiful. Arrive at the Sun Gate and Machu Picchu itself in the afternoon when most people have gone for the day. Stay tonight in Aguas Calientes. (b,l)

Day 11 | Machu Picchu | Explore Machu Picchu
Refreshed, catch the first bus up in the morning for a guided tour of Machu Picchu. Soak it all in. Return to Cusco by train after lunch. (b)

Day 12 | Puno | Luxury train across Altiplano
Take the Orient Express owned train from Cusco to Puno passing across the formidable Altiplano. Arrive in Puno and sleep in your lakeshore hotel. (b,l)

Suasi Island lodge view over Lake TiticacaDay 13 | Suasi Island | Cross Lake Titicaca
Take a boat out onto the lake this morning, stop by the floating reed islands and th elesser-known side of Taquile island. Continue to the private Suasi island to spend 2 nights in a stylish lodge. (b,l,d)

Day 14 | Suasi Island | Explore the island
Take a guided walk to get to learn about the indigenous flora and fauna. Afternoon hike up the area’s sacred mountain, dramatic views from the peak at 4,200m. (b,l,d)

Day 15 | Arequipa | Travel to the white city
Fly to Arequipa via the amazingly chaotic town of Juliaca. Arequipa sits in the shadow of several snow-capped volcanoes and is famous for its lovely climate. (b)

Day 16 | Arequipa | Day to relax
Today is an opportunity for you to simply relax and take things easy. If you prefer to get out and about today, we can arrange an optional visit to the Colca Canyon. (b)

Day 17 | Travel | Depart for home
After a relaxed morning, catch your mid-afternoon flight back to Lima, connecting through to your overnight flight out of Peru. (b)

Day 18 | Home | Arrive back
