The different geological folds and glaciations over the time in the Cantabrian Mountains have shaped a tortuous and stunning landscape. From the rocky crests to the gorges, valleys, vast glacial lakes and leafy forests, Spain’s first National Park is a wonderful setting for hiking, rock-climbing, bird-watching, and scenic drives almost all year round.
Virtually deserted in winter, the area bursts with visitors in July/August. Spring and Autumn are quieter though and just as likely to be sunny as in Summer – without being too hot.
