Arrival in Spain - at either Barcelona or Zaragoza airport - today. On the way to your hotel in the village of Murillo de Gállego, your guide will meet you at the Castle of Loarre and show you around. This spectacular 1,000 year old castle might be familiar to your family, having played a starring role in movies like Ridley Scott’s Kingdom of Heaven. Your guide will give you your meet and greet welcome either here or at your hotel.
Today, explore the spectacular Mallos; the red towers that dominate the landscape. Take a beautiful walk around them known as Heaven's Path. You are likely to see the vultures flying all around, as well as climbers making their way up the vertical walls.
Murillo de Gállego is one of the best spots in Spain for water sports thanks to the Gállego river that descends from the nearby summits of the Pyrenees. Choose from rafting all together as a family or take your own canoe rafts to paddle on your own.
Travel east today towards the high peaks of the Ordesa National Park. Hike in its most emblematic valley, following the Arazas River to the Horse Tail Waterfall, perfect for a refreshing drenching after your hike.
Today, you will be taken to explore the deep canyons of the area, a natural waterpark that you can enjoy with safety thanks to our expert certified local guides. If you prefer quieter activities you can also choose to paddle in the calmer waters of the reservoir just by your hotel. In the afternoon explore the beautiful medieval town of Ainsa.
Today you have a specialist wildlife guide with you all day. The world's highest concentration of Bearded Vultures can be found in the foothills of the Ordesa National Park, and Pura Aventura has close links with the Bearded Vulture Foundation, an NGO dedicated to protecting these spectacular birds. We can arrange for you to observe this endangered species from a hide, as they are being fed, and you will also be taken hiking to see them flying around you.
You shouldn't leave Aínsa without exploring the area by mountain bike. In the last years it has become one of the top areas worldwide with routes for all levels. With the help of the modern electric mountain bikes and our expert guides you can find the route that fits your family best. This half day activity could be guided or self-guided with GPS and maps. Ask your cycling guide, Martín, about the best hidden pools along the Ara River, perfect for rinsing off the dust of a day’s mountain biking through the forests and hills.
Head out to your chosen destination to carry on your travels or fly home.
Note: This is just an itinerary idea and we'll therefore tailor everything to you.
Flexible departures: Book now for autumn travel, secure in the knowledge that we offer you the freedom to defer your trip, until the point your balance is paid, to any available date before the end of 2021.
Ensuring your safety: Please rest assured that your safety is always our top priorty. Our partners will all follow the strict guidelines set out by the Spanish government to ensure your safety whilst travelling, and we will fully support them to ensure they are able to do so. As this holiday largely takes place in rural Spain, out in the open trails of the countryside, if you follow the same common-sense precautions you'd take at home, this trip will likely to be very much as it was pre-Covid – give or take a disinfectant wipe.
What you have here is a sample itinerary with a suggestion of how your family holiday might look. We have extensive first-hand experience across the region - two of our co-founders live in or close to the Pyrenees - so we have a far wider range of options available should you wish to tweak or extend this trip as set out here. As a tailor made holiday, in order to send the most appropriate proposal to you, we really need to discuss things with you first to find out when you want to travel, how long you want to go for, particular interests, etc. We can then prepare a detailed proposal and quotation for you to consider.
Departs any day of the year to suit you, from May through October.

Your first hotel is a very cosy affair, just 7 rooms in a pretty historic building in the village of Murillo, looking across at the Mallos de Riglos rock formations.
Your second hotel is quite a unique prospect, forming part of the Liguerre de Cinca Resort as it does. This is effectively a renovated village, brought to life after the departure of its residents when a reservoir was constructed, now given a new lease of life as a collection of accommodations with lots of character.

Pura co-founder Diego Martín was brought up in and still lives in the mountains of Northern Spain. His first-hand knowledge and understanding of the history and culture of the Pyrenees has been instrumental in designing a tour which not only showcases and protects its natural beauty, but also financially benefits the hoteliers, drivers, guides and restaurateurs that make their home here. Working directly with them ensures they receive maximum benefit.
Diego has also worked extensively with an organisation dedicated to the protection of bearded vultures, which you visit as part of your Pyrenees tour. The cultural aspect of this holiday is a very significant part of its appeal and is the reason why we are sure to include time with our local guides at key moments in the journey.
