Whether you're looking for a short break in Spain or taking your family to Latin America, find out our nine favourite destinations to spend next Easter.

Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

April is one of our favourite months to visit the Galapagos islands. With warm and sunny weather it is a perfect time to snorkel with the friendly sea lions but also watch baby sea turtles and land iguanas hatching.

Inca Trail, Peru

As the Andean dry season begins, this is an ideal time to hike the Inca Trail. The mountain landscapes are lush and green, the night-time temperatures are relatively mild for camping and there are fewer people on the trail. If you miss your Inca Trail permit, other great options are the less well known trails of Salkantay, Lares or Vilcabamba.

Atacama, Chile

With fewer tourists, April is a great month to visit the Atacama desert, the driest place on Earth. For stargazers this also means a good time for clear night skies in order to enjoy the bright and busy Milky Way. Besides observatories, salt flats and geysers are the main attractions here.

Iguassu, Brazil & Argentina

On the Brazil-Argentina border, the winter season begins in April meaning cooler weather and a good chance of sunshine at the spectacular waterfalls. Although water levels are not at their peak, the surrounding creates such a great environment that you will still find them astonishing. Note: to avoid local crowds visit the falls the week before or after the Easter week.

Torres del Paine, Chile

With the winter season starting, lodges and services are closing in northern Patagonia, although in Torres del Paine pretty much all activities and services are still available. The weather is often surprisingly good and for those lodges who have seasonal rates, it’ll be low season. Where there are forests, beneath the towers for instance, the leaves are beautiful oranges, yellows and reds.

Puna, Argentina

One of our favourite months to visit north-western Argentina is April, when rains have lessened but temperatures are still warm and sunny, with cool and fresh nights. This awe-inspiring yet lesser travelled corner of Argentina has some of the most vast and beautiful landscapes of South America.

Chapada Diamantina, Brazil

Easter is often said to be a great time to visit the Chapada because it’s less rainy but the waterfalls and rivers are in full flow, making lovely swimming spots. As the weather has also cooled off a bit, it’s a great time to hike along the remote Pati Valley, staying with Mr & Mrs Wilson in their incredibly remote farmhouse.

Corn Islands, Nicaragua

April is the last month of the dry season in Nicaragua so the weather is still be hot and sunny throughout the country. The weather is particularly dry on the Caribbean side so this is a good time to head to the beautiful and undeveloped Corn islands. These are like a snapshot of the Caribbean you thought had disappeared years ago - it’s a cultural hot spot with white sand beaches and amazing snorkelling.

Andalucia, Spain

Already nicely warm, April in Andalucia is a great choice if you want to swim off the beaches of Cabo de Gata. And while Aracena is lovely for walking, don’t miss Seville's Semana Santa procession as well as its famous April horse fair. The orange blossom on the trees perfumes the streets and the patios are at their floral best in April.
